OUR PLEDGE

Sustainability Plan

1. Vision and Commitment

We are committed to managing our facility in a way that protects the environment, supports the community, and ensures a thriving future for golf. Our approach is guided by the principles of conservation, efficiency, education, and continuous improvement.

2. Course and Grounds

Biodiversity: Protect and enhance natural habitats by maintaining wildflower areas, tree planting, and wildlife corridors.

Water Management: Use irrigation efficiently, monitor consumption, and capture or recycle water where possible.

Turf and Soil Health: Minimise use of chemicals, prioritise organic treatments, and promote healthy soils.

Energy in Maintenance: Transition to hybrid/electric turfcare machinery where feasible, and schedule maintenance to reduce fuel use.

3. Clubhouse and Operations

Energy Efficiency: Install LED lighting, motion sensors, and energy-efficient appliances. Regularly review energy consumption.

Water Efficiency: Fit water-saving devices, maintain plumbing systems, and reduce unnecessary use.

Waste Management: Provide clear recycling points, reduce single-use plastics, and repurpose or compost organic waste.

Procurement: Prioritise local, seasonal, and sustainable suppliers for food, beverages, and equipment.

4. Community and Education

Member Engagement: Share sustainability tips with members via newsletters, noticeboards, and digital channels.

Events and Awareness: Host sustainability-themed events, eco-walks, or talks to raise awareness.

Charity Partnerships: Continue to support local causes such as Herts & Essex Air Ambulance and Isabel Hospice.

Youth and Schools: Offer learning opportunities about nature and sustainability linked to golf and the outdoors.

5. Governance and Reporting

Policy and Leadership: Establish a sustainability policy endorsed by management and staff.

Monitoring: Track energy, water, and waste data annually to identify progress and opportunities.

Certification: Maintain compliance with GEO Certification requirements and pursue continuous improvement.

Transparency: Communicate actions and achievements openly with members, visitors, and the wider community.

6. Future Goals

Achieve zero waste to landfill.

Increase naturalised areas on the course by 10% over the next three years.
